About the author
My name is Tamara June. In the summer of 2016, I first became interested in going plant-based. My journey wasn’t a smooth ride along a beautiful country road but rather a bumpy uphill climb with some roadblocks. Still, I made it (this means, you can too 😉 ). Here’s in a nutshell how it all went down.
Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been interested in how what we eat impacts our health.
I was especially interested in preventing chronic diseases and, eventually, came across a whole-food plant-based diet as one of the easiest and most effective ways to do so. In the course of my research, I also learned about the many other health benefits of the vegan lifestyle.
As a result, I started to live partially vegan over the summer. I bought my first vegan cookbook and tried all the recipes with great pleasure. Still, when I was out, I consumed meat and other animal products.
When the summer came to an end and the semester started again (I was in college), I cooked less and ate mainly in the dining hall of my university. There, vegan options were severely limited, and there were only a few vegetarian dishes offered.
Therefore, I decided that a vegan diet was currently not feasible for me and returned to my old eating habits.
But the universe had different plans for me. 🙊
A few weeks after I made that decision, I saw a few clips of the documentary Earthlings. From one hour to the next, I decided to never ever 🚫 eat meat again.
These film excerpts were the necessary motivation for me to go through with becoming vegetarian/vegan despite the obstacles in my way (few options in the dining hall, little time to cook, limited financial resources, etc.).
Although it was not easy at first, I somehow always found ways to fill my stomach. Being hungry makes you creative, I guess! 😁
Over time, I began to eat more and more vegan and tried to reduce animal products overall. However, I was not very strict with it; if there was no vegan option, I chose the vegetarian one.
Flash forward to when I started working after college, moved into my own apartment, and began cooking for myself again. Vegetarian dishes became rarer week after week. Slowly, I faded out the remaining animal products until eventually, I was vegan entirely. And I know this sounds cheesy, but it was one of the best decisions of my life. As I continued to learn more about being vegan, I also set the goal to eat as wholesome as possible and make sure that I get all the nutrients I need.
Ultimately, I arrived where I am today — a confident vegan who is super passionate about eating healthy.
Why did I start this blog?
As mentioned above, I am particularly passionate about the connection between what we eat and our health. Thus, with this website, I want to help you take your wellbeing into your own hands by giving you tips for implementing a health-promoting diet. My goal is to assist you with eating a little bit healthier every day and help you ensure you get all the nutrients that you need. Further, I want to make healthy eating accessible to everyone and show you incredibly tasty a healthy plant-based diet can be.
To have a sound knowledge base, write especially helpful posts, and support you with implementing a whole-foods plant-based diet in the best possible way, I became a certified vegan nutritionist in addition to my degree in International Health.
Now that we know each other a bit better and you have learned a few things about the goals of this website, I wish you a lot of fun browsing, reading, cooking, and enjoying the vegan life.via GIPHY
